How to determine the number of dumpers for any type of filling

Construction Software

This is another very informative video presented by the renowned engineer S.L. Khan for civil engineering students. In this video, you will learn the method for calculating the number of dumpers for filling.

In this video, the solution is given to the following problem :-

Work out the numbers of dumpers with sizes 14 x 8 x 2 feet to fill an inside room having dimension 30 x 30 x 3 feet. Here, filling materials are considered as ordinary soil. Suppose, 50% depth losses because of compaction.

Solution:

Numbers of dumper = Filling volume/volume of dumper

Filling volume = 30 x 30 x 3 (it is not the full filling volume rather it is compacted volume)

As we know, 50% depth losses because of compaction, the full filling volume should be as follow :-

30 x 30 x (3 + 3/2) = 4050 cft

We know, the volume of dumpers = 14 x 8 x 2 = 224 cft

Therefore, the numbers of dumpers = 4050/224 = 18.08 or 18 (approx)
