How to find out the cutting length of tread in a staircase

Construction Software

Mukesh Shah, the renowned engineer, comes with another informative video where he briefly explains how to determine the cutting length of tread in a staircase in the construction site at the time of flooring of staircase by the mason.

In the video, RCC is marked with green color. Mortar (placed after flooring) is marked with blue color and the marble is marked with red color.

The calculation is based on the following dimensions :-

Width of the RCC tread is taken as 250 mm
The thickness of mortar is taken as 35 mm
The thickness of marble is taken as 15 mm

Nosing is taken as 10 mm (nosing refers to the front of the stair step or tread and normally overhangs the stair riser with approx 1 inch)

Initially, you have to find out the total length of the stair.

L = (250-35-15-10) + 250 + 250 + (35+15+10) = 750 mm

Width of tread = L/No. of tread = 750/3 = 250 mm
