Significance of 1.54 in concrete

This construction video is derived from a lecture given by a Civil Engineer. The video sheds light on the reason for adding 1.54 with wet volume for transformation to dry volume. It is the evidence of 54% of wet volume.

When water is included with the cement, it is accomodated by hydration of cement and absorption of FA and CA, so the volume is reduced. To sustain the volume 1.5 (shrinkage factor) is multiplied with the wet weight.

The dry volume of total materials needed is taken as 1.54 times the wet volume of concrete. This is because of the voids which are existent in sand and aggregates in dry stage.
