In this civil engineering tutorial, you will learn the process for making bar bending schedule for footing and column (circular or round).
While constructing anything on the site, the detail information is required. These details are provided in the construction drawings. Based on these details, the following activities are done :-
a. Calculation of steel for footing
b. Preparation of bar bending schedule
c. Calculation of steel for column
In bar bending schedule, initially, cut lengths are determined and then numbers of bars are determined and finally the format for bar bending schedule is prepared.
The calculation is done on the basis of the following dimensions :-
Width of the footing = 7 feet
Length of the footing = 7 feet
Diameter of the column = 12 inches
The main bars and distribution bars in the footing are same as ¾@8 c/c
The size of the concrete in footing = 10 inches
After that, the height up to overlap = 2 feet 6 inches
After that the overlap is 2 feet, the formula for calculating overlap is 40d (40 x numbers of vertical bars / 12)

To calculate the steel bars in L shape, 12d formula can be used :-
Concrete cover = 3 inches
The height over overlap = 13 feet
The concrete cover for column = 1.5 inches
Main bars ½ inches @6 bars
The rings are 3/8@6c/c
The diameter of column = 12 inches
