This construction video tutorial is very important for civil engineering students. In this video, you will learn how to measure the quantity of brick for house.
Here, the calculation is done for a single room.
The size of the room is taken as 6 meter x 4 meter
The height is taken as 3 meter
The thickness is taken as 0.23 meter
The size of the door is taken as 2.1 meter x 0.9 meter
The size of the window is taken as 1.8 meter x 2.4 meter
The standard size of each brick to be placed = 19 cm x 9 cm x 9 cm
Initially, it is required to determine the length of short & long wall.
The length of long wall is taken as 6 meter
For 2 walls = 6 x 2 = 12 meter
The length of long wall will be calculated as follow :
4 – (0.23 x 2) = 3.54 meter (after deducting the thickness of both sides)
For 2 walls = 3.54 x 2 = 7.08 meter
Also Read: Process for calculating the total numbers of bricks in a wall
Now, it is required to find out the volume of long wall as follow :-
Volume of long wall = length x breadth x height = 12 x 0.23 x 3 = 8.28 m3
As window is provided in long wall, so the volume of window should be deducted :-
= 8.28 – (size of the window x thickness) = 8.28 – (1.8 x 2.4 x 0.23) = 7.29 m3
Volume of short wall = 7.08 x 0.23 x 3 = 4.89 m3
As door is provided in short wall, the volume should be deducted :-
Vol = 4.89 – (size of the door x breadth) = 4.89 – (2.1 x 0.9 x 0.23) = 4.46 m3
Total volume = Volume of long wall + volume of short wall = 7.29 + 4.46 = 11.75 m3
The size of brick with mortar = 20 x 10 x 10 cm (after adding 1 cm for mortar) = 0.2 x 0.1 x 0.1
= 0.002 m3
The number of bricks = Total volume / volume of 1 brick = 11.75 / 0.002 = 5872.65 nos.
Now, consider wastage as 5%
Number of bricks = 5872.65 x 5% + 5872.65 = 293.63 + 5872.65 = 6166.28 = 6167 numbers
