How to determine the cutting length of a rectangular stirrup

Stirrups are arranged to withstand any shearing action as well as stop the longitudinal bars from bending outward.

The topic of this construction video tutorial is how to determine the cutting length of stirrup for square or rectangular column.

The calculation is done on the basis of the following dimension :-

The size of the rectangular column is assumed as (500 mm x 400 mm)

The diameter of the stirrup is assumed as 8 mm

Clear cover for this column is taken as 40 mm

Usually, stirrups are specified with its external dimensions. As for instance, a 250mm x 300mm stirrup contains the 250mm and 300mm dimensions in perpendicular directions.

To work out the cutting length of stirrup, we have to perform it along centre-line. A stirrup contains 2 bends.
