How to work out cutting length of diamond stirrups in column

Construction Software

This construction video tutorial briefly discusses how to find out the cutting length of the diamond stirrups.

Here the shape of the stirrup is rhombus.

The objective of stirrups is to retain the main reinforcement rebars collectively in an RCC structure. Stirrups are arranged at appropriate gappings to beams and columns to restrain them from buckling. Besides, they safeguard RCC structures from falling when seismic activities (earthquakes) occur.

The length of the stirrup is taken as 500 mm and width 400 mm. The clear cover for both is 40 mm. If you deduct 40 mm from both the sides, the length becomes 420 mm and width becomes 320 mm. The dia (d) of stirrups is taken as 8 mm.

Based on the above figure, the calculate is made with the following formula :-

(4 x H) + (2 x 10 x d) – (3 x 2 x d) – (2 x 3 x d)
