In this civil engineering article, you will learn to determine the quantities of the following items associated with a straight wall with length 6 meters, height 100 centimeter and width 30 centimeter.
1. Excavation/brick work
2. Concrete work/PCC
3. Brick work in Foundation and Plinth
4. Damp Proof Course (DPC)
5. Brick Work in SuperStructure
6. Cement Plaster
7. White Wash
Here, ratio of DPC is taken as 1:2:4. In the plinth level, the height of wall is 60 centimeter and width 40 centimeter. Below plinth level, the width is 50 centimeter and height is 20 centimeter. The ratio of concrete mix at ground level is 1:4:8. In PCC work, the height is 30 centimeter and width is 70 centimeter.
Based on the above data, the calculation is done in the following ways :-
For excavation work, the length should be calculated as follow :-
The width of PCC - Width of the wall i.e. 70 – 30 = 40 cm or 0.40 meter. Now this should be added to total length of the straight wall i.e. 6+0.40 = 6.40
The breadth of excavation will be the breadth of PCC = 70 cm or 0.70 meter
The height of excavation should be taken from ground level to underneath. It will be calculated as follow :-

Height from ground level upto PCC + Height of PCC = 20 + 30 = 50 cm or 0.50 meter
Now quantity of excavation work = Length x Breadth x Height = 6.40 x 0.70 x 0.50 = 2.24 m3
In second step, calculation is done for concrete in the ratio of 1:4:8. The length will be calculated with similar process mentioned above i.e. 6.40, breadth will be same as above i.e. 0.70 and height of PCC is 30 cm.
So, quantity of concrete = L x H x W = 6.40 x 0.70 x 0.30 = 1.34 m3
The same process should be applied for calculating Brickwork in foundation and plinth and DPC work.
